About Pichulik

PICHULIK is an ethical jewellery and accessories atelier based in Cape Town, South Africa. Rooted in Africa, and inspired by ancient traditions, mythology and cultures around the world, PICHULIK uses the language of African artistry and ornamentation to create sculptural accessories that celebrate empowering feminine narratives. Each piece is a talisman, handcrafted from repurposed rope, and combined with cast-brass elements, precious stones and unexpected organic materials, to create distinctive, sculptural forms.

Meet The Makers

The PICHULIK team is a pan-African group of spirited women who create everything by hand in our flagship studio in Cape Town’s iconic East City Precinct. Each collection is designed by Creative Director, Katherine-Mary Pichulik.

PICHULIK employs women, collaborates with women, and outsources to local women-owned small businesses, to promote job creation and economic activity in local communities, and champion and augment women’s earning capacity

The Brand

  • MYTHOLOGY. FOLKLORE. STORYTELLING.

PICHULIK is inspired by mythology and folklore. Ancient wisdom is healing; it greets the temporal with the sage of the eternal. PICHULIK seeks to impart sacred feminine wisdom through its unique designs. Each jewellery design is symbolic - intentionally shaped, handcrafted and embellished to embody this sacred storytelling. Each collection captures a different chapter in a heroine’s journey – an odyssey imbued with mythology, symbolism and transformation. Through distilling sacred wisdom from ancient traditions and myth, PICHULIK honours the bravery and beauty innate to all women, everywhere, echoed in the words, ‘You are Enough’

  • THE JEWELLERY

PICHULIK jewellery is handcrafted in our atelier in Cape Town, using unique African contemporary design to celebrate the strength of women around the world. Each piece serves as a totem and talisman. Each piece shares an ancient sacred feminine wisdom. PICHULIK jewellery is distinct in its innovative and sculptural use of repurposed rope, combined with cast-brass elements, and embellished with a variety of precious stones and unexpected organic materials such as Ghanaian agate, jade, shell and lava stone. These materials are then juxtaposed with intricate beadwork, bronze and brass. PICHULIK intentionally uses materials that change over time, celebrating imperfection and embracing the Japanese concept of ‘wabi-sabi’. PICHULIK sources most of its materials locally, and exclusively manufactures in Cape Town, South Africa.

  • SUSTAINABILITY

We embrace sustainability from a human perspective. Our designs are intentionally handcrafted to build the social equity of our crafters and preserve their skills. All pieces are assembled and showcased in our studio in the East City of Cape Town in order to promote the development of our local economy. We mentor and train our team members to grow them into higher-skilled jobs within PICHULIK. We continue to invest in our local producers and supply chain. From a packaging perspective, our dust bags are made from offcuts; our tissue paper is acid-free, FSC certified, biodegradable and recyclable; our description tags are produced in environmentally-friendly paper mills; our brand tags are recyclable; and our retail partner packaging is compostable.
